At Type A Media, we are co-creating an inclusive, uplifting community, and are committed to providing a #saferLIT environment – both for our contributors and for our staff and volunteers. We are dedicated to providing positive, engaging and rewarding work experience for individuals within our communities and to paying fair wages, fees or compensation for excellent work.

Our contributors are diverse and have specific #OwnVoices lived experiences; as such, we strive to provide our contributors with support from individuals who have shared lived experiences in order to accurately and appropriately serve and support their needs.

We particularly welcome applications from individuals who identify as: womxn, BIPOC, disabled, LGBTQ2S+, and/or from other intersectional and under-represented communities. If (and only if) you feel comfortable identifying yourself as one or more of the above, please do mention this in your cover letter. We respect your privacy and your journey, and will never disclose any personal information you choose to share with us without your consent, and we will never ask you to disclose any personal information to us that you are not interested in sharing.

At present, we are looking to fill the following positions:

Volunteer Readers

We are actively seeking out a team of on-call volunteer First-Readers and Sensitivity Readers, for work on our Open Submissions and Special Editions. As a Reader, you will have the enviable task of getting first exclusive access to hundreds of new works throughout the year, from some of Northern Ontario’s most talented emerging writers and artists. You will also gain insight into the publishing process, including valuable firs-hand knowledge of what publishers and editors are looking for in submissions (an excellent opportunity for writers and artists looking to place their own work now or in the near future!)

First-Readers require no specific experience, while Sensitivity Readers require specific lived experiences, relevant to a variety of #OwnVoices work we may consider publishing (as such, Sensitivity Readers will be added to an on-call roster based on their self-identified areas of lived experience.)

Education or work experience in the arts, literary, or journalism fields is a bonus but not required. A passion for uplifting others and a commitment to self-regulated, flexible hours and respect for deadlines are essential to the work. This is a work-from home opportunity, and is unpaid – however we are proud to offer our Readers a complimentary copy of each book their work contributes to.

To be considered for this position, please send us an email HERE detailing your interest in becoming a Type A Media Reader, as well as your background as it relates to the role. Please use the following Subject Line format: READER APPLICATION – <Your Name> – <First-Reader and/or Sensitivity Reader>

Editorial Roster

We are always looking for fresh perspectives from diverse Editors and Creatives, including designers, cover artists and other creatives. We pay competitive rates per project on a contract basis, and we work to match all of our Authors with Editors and Creatives who share their lived experiences.

We’d love to hear from you and add you to our roster – please send us your Resume or CV, three (3) samples of your work and an in-line Cover Letter via email HERE. Please use the following Subject Line format: APPLICATION – <Your Name> – <Editorial Roster>.
